Mother Without a Child
The taboo of miscarriage and what needs to change
One in three pregnant women experiences a miscarriage. So did I. When I was sixteen weeks pregnant, I lost my child, completely unprepared, at home at night. One in three women experiences a miscarriage during their fertile years. Yet hardly anyone talks about it. Instead, myths about the causes of miscarriages fuel women’s feelings of guilt and suffering.
For “Mother Without a Child”, I spoke with affected women, midwives, gynecologists, and lawyers. The book highlights systemic shortcomings and underscores the political relevance of pregnancy loss. It makes clear what needs to change in order to bring a long-overdue discourse into the heart of our society.
Alexandra Zykunov, author of the Spiegel bestseller "We’re all equal already, aren’t we!"
“Eva Lindner finds words for something there are really no words for. And breaks one of the last taboos of our time. Finally.“
Sandra Runge, lawyer and author
“Through moving personal accounts and thorough research, Eva Lindner shows that we need a new debate on miscarriage from a socio-political, scientific, and legal perspective.”

Providing education and knowledge (German/English)
As a speaker, workshop facilitator, and expert on miscarriages, I raise teams’ awareness of pregnancy loss and the needs of affected mothers and fathers. Especially in the workplace, miscarriages are rarely talked about, which is why managers and colleagues are unsure how to approach those affected.
I share the most important data and facts, and how those affected can be supported as effectively as possible. Because those who encounter an open culture of conversation and empathetic managers and colleagues are more likely to return to work sooner.
I would be happy to send you my concept upon request.
Mary McKenney, Co-Chair of The Women of Flywire employee resource group
“Thank you so, so much for leading this session and sharing your story. You did an incredible job educating the group and facilitating the discussion. I was so moved and it’s clear that people are eager to break the taboo and seek support. The work you do is amazing and very important.”
Tony C., participant
“I am so glad I joined your presentation. A difficult topic that not everyone is able to talk about, specially at work. I realized that I clearly have more work to do at a personal level. Looking forward to following your work around these topics.”
Prof. Dr. Marie-Christine Dabauvalle, Julius Maximilian University of Würzburg
“At our university’s Gender Forum, journalist Eva Lindner delivered a very successful workshop on the topic “Women’s health – Let’s talk about taboos”. The open conversation, experiences, and approaches regarding women’s health, miscarriage, depression, and menstruation were very impressive for all participants. The topic was not only highly interesting, but also presented in an exceptionally clear and effective way. Eva Lindner’s friendly and committed manner was particularly wonderful.”
